Sayeed Nawaaz a renowned Doctor and a Poet, is the Senior Registrar (Anesthesia) in ICU Department, King Khaled Teaching Hospital attached to King Saud University, Riyadh.
Nawaaz has the distinction of first Indian Anesthesiologist to clear Arab Board, which is rarely opted by the Non-Arab doctors. He is a rare combination of a Doctor and Poet.
Sayeed Nawaaz born and brought up in Warangal, a town 140 kms East of Hyderabad, had his early Education at Islamia School, and obtained his Medical Degree from Kakatiya Medical College and did M.D in Anesthesiology from Mysore University in Karnataka. He served at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad as Anesthesiologist before joining King Khaled Hospital attached to King Saud University in Riyadh.
Sayeed Nawaaz hails from the family of scholars, his father Dr. Rasheed Nawazi was the Principal of Islamia Degree College in Warangal, whose vast collection of books were the source of inspiration for the poet in Sayeed Nawaaz.
Nawaaz’s passion for poetry started right from his childhood, wrote his first poem in 7th standard and his first short story was published when he was in 8th standard. As the Editor of Kakatiya Medical College magazine, he wrote short poems on Embryology, Angina, Somnambulism, and Euphoria called them Medical poems. When his poetry was at its peak he was compelled to stop the poetry and to concentrate on his medical education.
Syeed Nawaz married and father of three children. His eldest son is a Trainee Pilot in India.
In an exclusive interview with Yahind.com Dr. Nawaaz said that Hospitals in the Kingdom are among the best equipped in the world”.
Speaking about Arab board he said “Since I decided to pursue my career in the Gulf, Arab board was the best option for me, and is recognized all over the Arab world. Though the Arab board is based in Damascus Syria. Most of the Examiners are Western Educated and represent different countries of Arab world.” My superiors in King Khaled Hospital encouraged and extended their support to clear the Arab Board.
When asked about the requirements to appear for Arab Board, he said “One should have a minimum of three years service in the gulf, and a hospital in this region should sponsor the candidature”.
Talking about his professional experiences he said Anesthesiologists plays a key role in managing the trauma centers, and he has lots of experience in ICU and trauma center. Anesthesiologists manage patients with head Injuries, crush trauma and bad trauma. He further said “Speed is the Killer” in the Kingdom the trauma centers receives mostly accident cases.
Talking about his poetry he said “I realized this talent in me when I was in 7th standard and my English teacher was explaining the poem ‘Miles to go before I sleep’ by Williams Wordsworth, I instantly translated it into Urdu.”
“Then I started writing shot stories, my story ‘Shahi Fakheer’ was the first of my creation to be published, it was published in Rahnuma-e-deccan, and at that time I was in 8th standard”, he continued.
Dr. Sayeed says impulsive poetry is always great. His short story "Khudkashi" (Suicide) the Poem “Kaun se geet sunogi Anjum” are the best creations of his, both the poem and the short story were published in “Shama” in early 80’s. Many of his poems and short stories were also published in leading Urdu magazines like Shama, Beeswi Sadi, etc.
Talking about the present state of Urdu in India Dr. Sayeed said “Urdu was the official language of Independence struggle, is dying in India and the Urdu speaking people are responsible for it, there is no need to leave Urdu for English, it can be learned without leaving, but people ignored Urdu to learn English, by ignoring urdu we are loosing our inheritance”.
When asked about sharing his experience in India Dr. Sayeed said, “ Given a chance and proper working conditions, India is the best place to work and I love to work in India and use all my experiences”.
When asked for his message to the community Dr. Sayeed Said “Be professional, whatever you are doing, do it in a professional way. May be you’re a doctor, Engineer or a Carpenter show professionalism in your work. Haphazardly done works spoils the nation”.
Describing the success Dr. Sayeed said “Name, Fame, Wealth are the least parameters to judge the success, the inner satisfaction is more important. But real success will be decided only on the Day of Judgment”.
