Riyadh Tamil Sangam, a Tamil community organization was inaugurated on February 17, 2005 by His Excellency the Indian Ambassador Mr. M.O.H. Farook during a grand poetic event “Kavi Arangam” .Poet laureate Dr. Vairamuthu was the Chief guest of the occasion. The grand gala event was organized jointly by the existing five popular Tamil associations which had been rendering service and entertainment to the Tamil speaking community in Riyadh in addition to several other dedicated activities during the past several years in Riyadh.
After its inauguration, Riyadh Tamil Sangam had its chartered ceremony as a memorable event on May 12, 2005. Then it organized its first major event Pattimandram (literary debate) on November 15, 2005, where celebrity speakers from Tamilnadu Mr. Solomon Pappiah, Mr. Ramachandran and Mr. Raja were invited to speak. His Excellency the Indian Ambassador Mr. M.O.H. Farook, His Excellency the Srilankan Ambassador Mr. A.M.J Sadiq, Nagarkoil M.P. A.V. Bellarmin aswell graced the function. With that Riyadh Tamil Sangam marked its first success as a well organized body.
The executive committee identified the avenues through which it can be of use to the Tamil speaking community in Riyadh. Several sub-committees were formed to cater to several needs of the community, like...
Promotion of Literary & Entertainment skills
Social Service activities, and
Job placements for the needy.
It has its own website as well as an e-group known as the Riyadh Tamil Sangam group (through Yahoo) through which several members have registered and are contributing worthy information and suggestions.
Riyadh Tamil Sangam would corroborate with other major Tamil community organizations in the gulf region in forming an apex body for the Tamil Community living in the gulf.
