A free trip to India for winners of a radio contest ended in farce when the plane chartered to fly the listeners had to return to Dubai after just 20 minutes. More than 100 people were on the plane, chartered by Hit FM 96.7 , on Friday. But after just 20 minutes it encountered technical problems and had to return. We waited at the transit lobby for around two hours while they were trying to find an alternative, said one winner.

But they announced that the trip was cancelled and dropped us back home. The winners said many of them were planning to meet their families in Cochin during the one-day trip. Hit FM said it would try to make it up to the listeners. This is something that could happen to anybody. We are looking at working out the logistics of the trip again but have presently kept our options open, said Ajith Menon , head of programming.
