Soon after the formation of the UAE in December 1971, Consulate General of India (CGI) was established in Dubai. Prior to this, the first Indian Government representation started with the Indian Trade Agency in 1956 with Mr O P Bhalla as the first Indian Trade Agent.
Located in the Al Hamaria Dipolomatic Enclave, Dubai CGI's consular jurisdiction extends to Dubai and the five northern Emirates of Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah. CGI also renders consular services on Fridays at the Indian Association premises at the five northern Emirates mentioned above.
