Former Indian captain Mohammed Azharuddin, serving a life ban for match fixing will be invited for the cricket board’s felicitation function scheduled for next month, this was confirmed by Ratnakar Shetty the administrative head of the board.
Azhar will join India’s past and present living captains at the function, although the ban is so severe that he is deprived from playing, coaching or assuming an official position. Two years ago when Azhar commentated in a limited overs international in Sri Lanka much to the angry response from the ICC, the then president took a serious note of that.
This honour will be for his contribution to the Indian cricket, the BCCI obviously has no objection whatsoever to include him in the list of top personalities of the country.
We welcome the board’s decision for this exemplary gesture, it’s a great opportunity for Azhar to salvage lost pride.
