A two day national workshop on “FRUGAL INNOVATIONS”, was held on 7th & 8th July, 2017 at NIRD&PR Campus, Rajender Nagar, Hyderabad.

It was jointly organized by National Institute of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj (NIRD&PR), Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) and Vijnana Bharati.

Chief Guest was Shri M Venkaiah Naidu, Hon’ble Union Minister along with guest of honour Shri Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, from Chevella, Dr V K Saraswat member of Niti Aayog, GOI, Dr B N Suresh President INAE and Dr W R Reddy IAS Director General NIRD&PR. The aim of the workshop was to encourage & support the rural innovators and create greater awareness. It provided an inclusive platform for ideas, innovations for facilitating new business models and workout the way forward with possible mentoring support by the experts of Organizations.

As the event was a National level event, entries were from different parts of the country. Participation was through a selection process by an expert committee. Few innovators, from LORDS INSTITUTE OF ENGINEERING & TECHNOLOGY, Hyderabad, were selected and to be a part of Frugal Innovations Workshop based on the innovative ideas submitted by them.

Mechanical Department Innovation,  “Portable device that produces Water from Air and simultaneously functions as an Air conditioning & Refrigerating Unit” by innovators Mohammed Muzaffer Hussain, Mohammed Parvez Qureshi, Mohammed Salman, Syed Abubaker Pasha, Munawaruddin & Salman Khan. It was placed at 2nd position among all the competitors. This 3 in 1 machine produces 40 litres of drinking water from air. It is a first of its kind of machine in India and a patent has already been filed. It was explained by Mohammed Muzaffer Hussain, final year student of Mechanical Engineering Department to the vast number of experts.

Civil Department Innovators Mr. Mohammed Imran, Shaik Mohammed Taj, Mohammed Majid, Mohammed Ilyas, under the guidance of Prof. Safiuddin, participated along with their prototype “Low Cost Home Security System”. The system works based on a mobile application and detects any if any unauthorized person tries to enter the house. The system is activated and the mobile makes a call to the owner of the house, so that he can take necessary action.

In addition to this, Lords Institute of Engineering & Technology was given a memento by Dr. Mohammed Khan, Senior Consultant NIRD&PR for their active participation and encouragement of students towards development of rural India through Innovations.
